27 Words

Sorry about not posting the past couple of days, I had to have some oral surgery. If anyone would like to know how it feels to have a chunk of tissue sliced from the roof of your mouth and sewed on to your lower gum just let me know. Now on with the show.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

While in a nice Loritab® funk after my surgery on Tuesday I listened to the to the arguments for the 2nd amendment case now before the Supreme Court on C-SPAN. (yeah, I know, I need to get a life) It seemed to me a lot of this case hinges on one word that the framers did not include. That word is “And” . Had this word been included, and the amendment read like this:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, and the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Then maybe I could fulfill my dream of having a Howitzer stationed in my front yard. But as it stands I can only dream for now.

This case stems from a couple of law abiding residents of Washington DC who are suing to have their “Right To Keep And Bear Arms” returned to them. As it stands now no person who lives within the city limits of DC can own or posses a hand gun of any kind. Also any long guns (rifle or shot gun) under the law may not be operational. This means that it must be unloaded, broken down and have a trigger lock. So in affect, the citizens of the DC metro area are forbidden to protect, and defend themselves. This might not be that big a deal if we all lived the leftest fantasy land of Utopia, where the citizens do not need arms because the government will “protect” you. But this is DC were talking about here. I went there when I was in High School and let me tell you, it is a cesspool. Coming from the the south it was quite a culture shock to see real “hoods”. I’v been to Atlanta many times, but Tech Wood is a country club compared to the area around the National Zoo in DC. I was honestly worried that our charter bus would break down as we drove through Anacostia. The news has had story after story about how bad crime is, and how high the murder rate is in DC.

I own guns. So I guess I am biased on this. And I have made my pro gun argument (see posts from April 07 http://punishtheinocentaswell-aaron.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html) until I’m blue in the face.

Now the Supreme Court could end this argument once and for all. All a majority has to do is come back in June and find that the second amendment does indeed give law abiding citizens the right to keep and bear arms. The same way the court ruled in 1973 that all women have the right to abort their children. If that can be done then why not this? At least the gun thing is written in black and white in the Constitution. Yes all you loonly leftists we gun crazies should be able to use the Constitution to our advantage as well.

But I’m sure the nine idiots will chicken out, this being an election year and all. My prediction is a majority will find for the two plaintiffs, but for some sort of procedural misstep. And we will once again have the question hanging over our heads. Oh well. It’s just our liberty.

FUCK THAT!!!!

FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS IS ONLY WAY YOU WILL GET MY GUNS!!!!!!!!!

A WELL ARMED SOCIETY IS A WELL MANNERED SOCIETY!!!

GUN CONTROL MEANS TAKING DEAD AIM ON THE PERSON BREAKING IN TO MY HOUSE!!!

Sorry, I did’nt mean to go off on a bumper sticker tirade.

Criminals, people who are judged to be mental incapacitated, and minors should not be able to buy guns legally. And we already have a system and the infrastructure to make sure of this. I have no problem keeping fully automatic weapons illegal also. (well I do because I would love to have one but I understand.)

Laws of course will not keep guns out of the hands of the people who should not have them. Nor will it keep weapons that are deemed illegal off of the streets. The best thing we as law abiding citizens can do is go to our local shooting range and practice, practice, practice, so our aim is true and the only people we hit is the criminal and not innocent bystanders.

The Republican Mess

Just about all of the Republican candidates seem to be positioning themselves as the left of center alternative to the Democrats, if that makes any sense. The only chance the Grand Old Party has at retaining the White House is to nominate the most conservative among them. If not, then you have the prospect of some kook third party splitting the vote.

I believe we might be looking at a repeat of 92 if anyone but Thompson gets the nomination. He is not afraid to say, elect me and I will steer this ship back to the right. Thompson seems to be the only candidate that actually takes the same positions of the party platform on issues of immigration, lower taxes, cutting spending, and limiting the power of the federal government.

If you close your eyes and listen to the other candidates and knew nothing about them you might think they were running for the Democratic nomination. I actually saw a quote from a democratic strategist that suggested McCain was the strongest liberal voice in the race. Romney seems to be the bait and switch candidate, his rhetoric changes based on his audience. My god the man was elected as a Republican in Massachusetts. As far as I can tell a Massachusetts Republican is still to the left of Joseph Stalin. Huckabee might be the only white Baptist preacher who is liberal. His favorite political power is the power to tax. But come on, after 12 years of “Dubya” do we really want an ordained Baptist preacher in the white house? Giuliani wants to take my guns away from me, so he should not be allowed to even breath the same air as us, much less be elected president.

Fred Thompson appears to be the most fiscally conservative of the bunch. Like I said before, it's a choice between the lesser of (in this case) 5 evils.

Our Next Candidate......

Our next Candidate is someone everyone knows. Has personally killed more people than anyone in history. He is loved by some, hated by others, some even think he's a myth. No I'm not talking about Kyser Soze, it's God himself.

He of course would never have a chance in Hell of winning. For all we know if he does exist, he is probably sitting in a mental hospital for walking around saying he's God. Because who would believe him.

Fantasy Presidential Candidates

Ever wished you could really decided who was running for president? Me too. Here is my first installment of my fantasy nominees. The only rule is, there are no rules. They can be any one, living or dead, real or fictional. feel free to send me your suggestions as well.

The first nominee is, of course Peter Potamus.

Potamus, the once forgotten Hahnna-Barbera cartoon character from the 60s has made a comeback of sorts working as lawyer on the Cartoon Networks, "Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law" Series. In it, he is a sexually charged hippo working in the firm with Harvey Birdman. He has the trademark phrase, "Didja get that thing I sentcha?"

Think Bill Clinton, only Peter is a lot slimmer with less of an odor.

Thompson And The Rest.

Is Fred Thompson for real or is he just trying to move the Republicans back to the right? Some major players on the conservative right are now calling out Giuliani on his pro-abortion stance as well as his other leftist/socialist leanings. This can be traced directly to Thompson announcing his bid for El Presidente. Now that there is what looks like a true conservative in the pack, there's no need to just blindly support the supposed front runner. Now they have a candidate and no longer feel the need to collectively bite their tongues.

It seems to be a two person race in both parties, Clinton/Obama and Thompson/Giuliani and for good measure I will throw Romney in there also, but the coming weeks will be telling for his campaign. He may get lost in the shuffle and may find his support and money waning.

In the immortal words of Hunter S. Thompson, "The worm is starting to turn". We are getting to the point in the campaign where good men suffer like rabid dogs and campaign managers ponder slitting their on throats just to make the pain go away. Yes my friends its starting to get fun.
