Who Won? Who Knows?

If you would have told me this past November John McCain in all likely hood was going to be the nominee for the republicans I would have laughed in your face. Of course he didn’t do to well in the south. And like I have said before you are not allowed to be President unless we in the south say so.

The picture is not so clear on the democratic side. Obama had a decent showing among cracker men, (aka honkies, aka “the man”) especially in the south. If it wasn’t for the Latino vote the night would have been a disaster for Clinton. I have not seen a truly accurate delegate count, but it looks like the difference is going to be about 150 to 200 in Hillary’s favor. Not a lot coming out of Super Tuesday, and nothing Obama cant over come.

No Soup For You Tuesday

Tomorrow is the Super Bowl for political junkies. I’m still not convinced we will know whom the nominees are going to be come Wednesday morning. But it’s going to be fun watching the talking heads in the media cream their pants trying to figure out whom the frontrunner will be.

According to a friend of mine who keeps up with the polls more than I do California is totally up in the air. This is not surprising of course. This is the biggest of battle ground states. http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/california.html

According to some polls I have looked at Clinton and Obama are in a statistical dead heat. And on the Republican side Romney has a slight edge. In both cases it looks like it will come down to the undecided voters.

I still remain hopeful that we will be swallowed up by a black hole between now and November, so that we may be spared the indignity of having to choose between two idiots who want control of our great nuclear arsenal.

The Republican Mess

Just about all of the Republican candidates seem to be positioning themselves as the left of center alternative to the Democrats, if that makes any sense. The only chance the Grand Old Party has at retaining the White House is to nominate the most conservative among them. If not, then you have the prospect of some kook third party splitting the vote.

I believe we might be looking at a repeat of 92 if anyone but Thompson gets the nomination. He is not afraid to say, elect me and I will steer this ship back to the right. Thompson seems to be the only candidate that actually takes the same positions of the party platform on issues of immigration, lower taxes, cutting spending, and limiting the power of the federal government.

If you close your eyes and listen to the other candidates and knew nothing about them you might think they were running for the Democratic nomination. I actually saw a quote from a democratic strategist that suggested McCain was the strongest liberal voice in the race. Romney seems to be the bait and switch candidate, his rhetoric changes based on his audience. My god the man was elected as a Republican in Massachusetts. As far as I can tell a Massachusetts Republican is still to the left of Joseph Stalin. Huckabee might be the only white Baptist preacher who is liberal. His favorite political power is the power to tax. But come on, after 12 years of “Dubya” do we really want an ordained Baptist preacher in the white house? Giuliani wants to take my guns away from me, so he should not be allowed to even breath the same air as us, much less be elected president.

Fred Thompson appears to be the most fiscally conservative of the bunch. Like I said before, it's a choice between the lesser of (in this case) 5 evils.
